Nordic Fest 2011

Nordic Fest 2011

This year's Eastern Division Nordic Fest promises to repeat the success of the past. The Genesee Valley Nordic Ski Patrol has organized a terrific weekend with a great opportunity to reinforce skiing and other nordic skills, to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow patrollers, and to have fun.

The dates are Friday evening through Sunday, March 4 to 6. The place is in and around Honeoye, New York, in the scenic Finger Lakes Region. Here is the information we have available at this date. As plans progress, changes will be made to this web page. Make sure you check back here as the date approaches and send in the registration form today!

What to Bring

We would suggest patrollers bring the following:

  • Ski/Snowshoe equipment
  • Telemark Equipment for Sunday clinic – no rentals available
  • Accommodations – carpeted floors, bring padding, cot or air mattress
  • Lunch for Saturday – no food available at Harriett Hollister
  • GPS, compass
  • Public Safety VHF Radio if you have one – Frequency 155.220
  • Shovel, lawn chair
  • Avalanche beacon if you have one

It might be a good idea to bring your patrol pack with its equipment and supplies.

How to Register

Registration runs from February 2 to 21. Download the registration form by clicking here. Print and fill in the form. On Saturday, sign up for either Nordic S&T Evaluation or Nordic Skills Review (not both). Mail the completed form and a check for $30 to the address given.

Accommodations

Patrollers will be housed at the Cumming Nature Center, a part of the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The spacious facility has a large cafeteria area in the lower level for group gatherings with a wonderful fireplace and kitchen. Upstairs can accommodate campers on carpeted floors for sleeping with their own cushions or mattresses in an open sleeping model. The auditorium has a projector and gallery with large screen TV. Men's and Women's public style bathrooms are basic – no shower. The heat is reduced at night and could get down to 55 degrees.
