2012 Winter Forecast from the Farmers’ Almanac
September 24, 2011
Caleb Weatherbee, official forecaster for the Farmers’ Almanac, predicts above-normal temperatures across most of the northeastern U.S. A very active storm track will bring much heavier-than-normal precipitation to the Northeast. Because of above-normal temperatures, much of the precipitation will likely be rain or mixed precipitation, although, during February, some potent East Coast storms could leave heavy snow, albeit of a wet and slushy consistency.

For the fourth time in five years, Northfield Mountain and our patrol hosted the fall seminar and skills refresher for Avalanche, Mountain Travel & Rescue, and Nordic (AMN) instructors of the Eastern Division of the National Ski Patrol. This past weekend, 50 instructors took part in the event and camped at Barton Cove.
Among the attendees were Burt Mitchell (Chairman of the Board of Directors, NSP), Joel Sevick (Director of the Western Massachusetts Region), and the Eastern Division’s Avalanche, MTR, and Nordic Supervisors. Bo Duris, Bill Schweikert, and Jonathan Shefftz of our patrol organized the program and vendor support. George Baitinger, new to Northfield but a seasoned patroller, participated as an MTR Instructor.
Take a look at the AMN website.
